Year 6 - Eagles & Falcons
Welcome to Year 6!
In Year 6 this year, our teaching team consists of Mrs Pledge in Falcons, and Mr Inker in Eagles.
Our Project learning this year:
Autumn 1 |
There is only one way to design an effective product. Support or Challenge? (The children will construct an electric litter picker) |
Autumn 2 |
Why were shelters important in WWII? (The children will construct a WWII shelter) |
Spring 1 |
How has the “current” industrial revolution impacted the solutions to engineering problems in the modern day? (The children will build protective casing which could safely transport an item to space and back again) |
Spring 2 |
Early Islamic Civilisation (The children will create a book demonstrating the Early Islamic Civilisation and Baghdad bounds with a cover inspired by Islamic Art) |
Summer 1 |
Evolution (The children will create stop-animations demonstrating evolution) |
Summer 2 |
A chosen country in Asia or Oceania (The children will compare the human and physical geography of a country and compare it to the UK) |
Key days
Our P.E day is Wednesday and children need to come to school in their full PE kit.
Children will be given 6 spellings every week to learn and then be tested on these the following Monday. These spellings will follow the spelling rule we are learning in the class that week.
Year 6 will have CGP books as their weekly home learning (on top of spellings and daily reading). They will have a CGP book for Reading, Maths and Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling. The children are given designated pages every Thursday and are expected to complete everything set, ready to mark their learning in class the following Thursday. Until we begin the CGP books, the children will be completing Maths homework each week. This will also be set on a Thursday.
Year 6 children complete the statutory end of KS2 assessments between Monday 12th May and Friday 16th May 2025. Further information about these assessments will follow later in the academic year.
The Year 6 residential trip will be taking place in July 2025. Further information about this exciting trip will be communicated in the Autumn term.
Finally, we would like to thank you for the continued support you give as parents to our Year 6 children and Salfords Primary School. We strive for our pupils to show as many school values as possible on a daily basis because they are great role models for the other children!
