In Year 2 this year, our teaching team consists of

Autumn 1 |
What makes the best coat? Investigating what makes the best coat for each world climate, making their own coat for a teddy bear. (Science and DT focus) |

Autumn 2 |
What impact has the Great Fire of London had on the structures in modern London? Exploring the impact of the Great Fire of London on the structures in modern day London, creating their own wooden house. (History and DT focus) Autumn Term 2 - The children have the opportunity to take part in a workshop where they will learn about the Great Fire of London. Autumn Term 2 - The children will visit the local church to take part in the Sparkfish, ‘The Christmas Journey’. |

How did the development of flight impact the life of individuals in the UK? Exploring the development of flight and how it impacted the life of individuals in the UK. (History and DT focus) |

Spring 2 |
Can I create a piece of art based on a period of History? Creating artwork in the style of Pop Art with a British focus. (Art and History focus) |

Summer 1 |
Can I develop an understanding of the living world around me? Creating a natural history programme, inspired by Sir David Attenborough, talking about an animal, their lifecycle, and the habitat they live in. (Science focus) Summer Term 1 - trip to Tilgate park to observe animals in their habitats |

Summer 2 |
Can I explore cultures and celebrations from around the world? Creating a piece of art and a food dish inspired by the culture and celebrations of Australia . (Geography and Music focus) |
Key days
PE - Tuesday - Children need to come into school in their full PE kit.
Spelling - Spellings will be sent home on a Wednesday. Spelling test day is Monday.
Phonics - Phonics books are changed on a Monday. The children will also be sent home with the phonics book that they have been reading during their phonics lesson. Please return after 3 days.
Class library books are changed on a Friday.
If your child did not pass the phonics screening in Year 1, they will re-sit this in June 2025.
Finally, we would like to thank you for the continued support you give as parents to our Year 2 children and Salfords Primary School. Our pupils try to show as many school values as possible on a daily basis because they aspire to be great role models for the other children!
